Here's what I have right now:

AmD Phenom II X2 560 3.3Ghz AM3 CPU

XFX Radeon HD 6790 1GB

Corsair Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W

Biostar TA870U3+ AMD 870 Socket AM3 Motherboard

Corsair XMS3 4GB PC10666 DDR3 1333MHz

I'm thinking about getting a second 6790 but I don't want to have to upgrade anything else. can I do this without bottlenecking performance? thanks

You can upgrade and get another GPU, but you will be getting close to the limit of your PSU. Luckily you chose a good PSU when you built your PC from the start, so whoever gave you that advice though for the future. Good man.

Another HD6790 will give you a good performing machine, as the newer cards (6000 series) scale quite well in XFire compared to the older cards. Bottlenecking will only occur in multi-threaded applications on your CPU, but for current games and new ones it's still 100% OK. Next year you might want to look at a Phenom II X4, like the 955 or something though, to provide your machine with the extra threads it will need during gaming.

Enjoy!
